A friend of mine is renovating a civil war era house and described to me what I think is a silver 1776 continental dollar! I can't find measurements or weight specifics for the silver variety probably b/c there are only two known. Can't wait to take a look, cross fingers, and send pics out to everyone!

The cast pits are a dead giveaway as are the uneven circles and "mushy" lettering.

There was a story in Coin World in 2012 where a guy bought one for like $10.00 at a flea market in 1980 carried it in his wallet for 30 years till a friend told him it looked real. Sent in and came back ms 60 I think no one could believe 1 it was real 3 30 years in his wallet and no wear. You can maybe google it great reading
