Hey guys. I was given a coin on my wedding day from my uncle and would like to know a little more about it. I know its a Morgan silver dollar. The year is 1887-s. Its an ms62 vam93. Can't seem to find this exact coin anywhere so I was wondering if you could tell me if its rare/significant and maybe an estimate on value? Thanks in advance for any help.

I will post some pics tomorrow as I am at work right now. I tried to do a little research myself but couldn't find the exact same coin.

Interesting. ANACS is, by a wide margin, the most reliable attributor of Morgan varieties. But 1887-S VAMs stop at VAM-20. In fact, no 1887 issue carries a VAM number anywhere near that high. Yet, there's not a chance that ANACS will get a Morgan attribution wrong - their attributor, John Roberts, is one of the three or four most important players in the world of VAMming and the discoverer of a large number of VAMs himself. If this is labeled as an 1887-S VAM-93 in an ANACS slab, I must question the authenticity of the slab. Could you possibly image this coin? At MS-62, this one would have a value of around $160-175. Edit: I was looking around and typing this post when you mentioned imaging it tomorrow - I'll be patient now.

In my limited research I did come across VAM world and again I was stumped. Might have something here? I went to the anacs website and typed the serial number in that they issued to the coin and it popped up with the same info that is on the case.

Sure is nice. As usual, I believe ANACS under grades Morgans and Peace dollars. Don't know about the VAM but looks to be a high grade than MS-62!

Really nice coin. Tell your Uncle thanks and if he has more, let me know. I could use a present like that.

Nice! I know he'd be my favorite uncle if I got one of those for a wedding present.

Ah. 1878-S VAM-93. That makes a little more sense now. Not a value-added VAM, but really nice for the grade. I suspect your uncle knows a bit about Morgans and grading.
