the mintmark looks kinda fishy but not sure. it seems to be just a tad bit to the right and crocked but I ain't an expert on this series.
Looks to be harshly cleaned on the obverse as well.

OK I didn't see that you were the winner of the auction. I'm curious why you bid and Then asked of it's authenticity. The seller has a return policy and you should be obligated to buy the coin and at least take it to a dealer to check for you instead of stiffing the seller solely on seeing the pictures. just my 2 cents

Honestly I didnt think I would win it. So when I did I figured something must be up. Given that JApan is so close to CHINA I decided to give the coin a closer look. That is when I noticed the mint mark looked weird. I feel bad if its real, but I have been burned to many times and had to wait 2 months to get my money back. I think I'll just chalk this one up to experience, If he wants to come from Japan to punch me in the nose, let him.

Aren't we Mister high and mighty! Do you sell fakes too? Why so defensive ? I think people have every right to keep people (like you?) from ripping them off. Dont worry I wont be buying any coins from you any-way.

Just because you win an item and got apparently a deal on it after 12 others bid on it, doesn't mean something is wrong OR get you out your contract with the seller. As a 1100+ transaction person on ebay, you know that you don't bid if you don't plan on winning and paying for an item. It seems like you already have plenty of experience eBaying along with you being burned many times before that should negate your "chalk one up" excuse. Since this post is all about assumptions anyway, my guess is you don't have the funds and got in over your head on a coin that appears to be authentic. I am sure the 2nd chance offer person will be happy. Oh you may want to stick with Certified slabs so you don't have to worry about authenticity in the future. |

Hard to tell without it being in hand or seeing a better image of the coin. When in doubt, ask for better images from the seller, consider where the coin is being sold, and decide before hitting the primordial bid button. The optimal time to have questioned was before, not after.

What part of the term, "binding contract" are you failing to comprehend? Nobody held a gun to your head regarding this coin. And here you are, talking about abandoning a commitment as casually as you might talk about going to Dunkin' Donuts for a coffee. Your coin-buying experience on ebay appears to be pretty broad, and you've received over 1100 Feedbacks total, indicating that by now you should have a pretty good idea how things work and what's expected of a buyer. Yet you've just arbitrarily decided to have buyer's remorse and refuse to pay for a coin. Additionally, there are the 6 Bid Retractions you've got on your record for the last year. And you talk about having been "repeatedly burned." This tells me that, A) You're willing to abandon the rules when they don't suit you, B) You change your mind frequently without regard to commitments you might have made, and C) You really don't know as much about coins as you could learn here in an hour. That adds up to someone who, as a seller, I'd consider too great a risk to do business with. It's a real hassle to go through the NPB system, and it ties up money which the deadbeat buyer has no right tying up. If there's a problem with Ebayers selling fakes, it's only because there are people like you who are willing to bid on them. |

Roach, you told me all I need to know about you. You made a contract, then look for excuses to try to weasel your way out of the contract. You bid on a fairly expensive coin without checking deeper into the item, then try to avoid responsibility for your own actions. Comments such as the above only hurt your own position and credibility and otherwise is a reflection of your character... or lack of it. Whether it is fake or not is irrelevant; you bid on it, you won, pay the seller. Be a man and face the consequences of your actions. This forum is based on honesty and education, neither of which you have demonstrated. Your attack on one of the most trustworthy persons on the forum will not be tolerated on this forum. Think carefully on your next response. You are on the edge of being blocked. |

Block away, it just shows that this forum is a not about free speech , if I cant say whats on my mind then I dont care to partake in the discussion. I really dont care who Super Dave is. The problem at hand is between me and the seller . I only asked for what people thought about wheater it was a faked mint mark. It was "super dave" who decided to take it upon himself to make a commentary on the non-paying issue. If he would like to make his own thread on the topic he may certainly do so , but to take over my thread is rude and presumptious. You on this board will probably all stick up for each other which is fine, if you want your own little "club" you may have it,but if you wish to increase people's knowledge about coins then you have to let other people speak their minds freely, not just a few in the "club".

Roach none of your posts have been edited or deleted,, If thats not allowing you to speak your mind then I'm not sure what you expect .
The simple fact is that everyone has the ability to speak their minds including SuperDave ,,If your posts provoked a negative response regarding your integrity then that responsibility lay with you and your words ,,Like it or not what you say and the thoughts you have projected ,,are exactly opposed to the basic tenants of this forum .
As for the coin being a fake the pics are not large enough or of sufficent quality to say one way or the other .

You're free to say anything you want. Your post is what's taking over your thread. You can say what's on your mind, you can wonder why the sky is blue and the grass is green. If you just wanted an opinion on the authenticity of the coin you should have just posted a pic and asked the question. Instead you tell us you are thinking about not paying for a coin you agreed to pay for, and people called you on that fact. You can't possibly expect people to suspend their own right of free speech to satisfy what you think they should use their right of free speech on, can you? As an ebay seller, how would you respond to a buyer, after bidding and winning one of your coins, saying, "I think that coin is fake and I'm not going to pay." I thought so. There is no problem between you and the seller, the only problem is yours. Of course people in this "club" (it's more of a family, really, and if you cared at all to treat it like one, you'd see it's better that way), will stick up for each other, but not for the reason you think. Every collector on here wants the hobby/business to work in a way that is fair and free from all the things that have the potential to blight it and cause others to give up on collecting coins. The action you describe is dishonorable and without any redeeming quality I can see. Maybe instead of being reactionary, you could further explain why you bid on the item without an apparent understanding of what would be expected (ethically and legally) of you should you win? And to answer your other question, I can't see anything about the coin that screams fake except that the mintmark appears to be a bit larger than some I've seen. This could be a factor of its condition or shadow in the picture, or angle of the shot or something else. It's actually difficult to tell. I hope that after you have the coin in hand you'll be able and willing to tell us what you determine about its authenticity. I am suspending my own judgement on you and keeping your items in my watch list, although I really would like to hear a reasonable reply from you before I decide to bid on one of your items. |
