A while back I put in a post cautioning collectors to beware of buying Morgans by subscription from the Bradford E. In that post I said that I would try and make a ring out of the most damaged coin, it is really bad, the picture is there in the post. So far I have not had the heart to damage an already damaged Morgan, so I decided to practice with some half dollars from my scrap pile. As I learn more, perhaps in time I'll try the Morgan, here are some pictures: Please note: no collectable coins were hurt during the making of these rings. The copper one is an old Large cent.      |

The most popular ones I've made have been US/Phillipine 20 centavos, for some reason. Looks like you've
got it down & speaks to your patience.

I like how the vines go around the copper one, ad how smooth the silver rings are. How do you make it like that? I might try making one myself.

 Thanks for the nice words, I can give a basic out line on how I made the two different coins but it would be easier to watch several different you tube videos on the coin rings, also look for them on a site called esty. There are some amazing crafts people breathing new life into (hopefully) scrap coins. The super shiny ones take along time with a hammer, be careful if you rush and hit the coin to hard you will bend it. The copper one (this is what I plan to do to the Morgan) is a couple of steps, 1st drill out the centre and smooth the center down. 2nd. It now looks like a washer, you then carefully tap it down around a mandrel to make it into a tube. I could go on but seeing the videos is way better, those guys are good. cheers Liverpool |

I never wear a ring so makes no difference. However, they do look impressive.
However, if I did want one I'd just go buy one. Much easier.

I hear you Carl, I too wear no jewelry, not even a watch. I've enjoyed the experiment and will probably make a few more, it will be a nice compliment to collecting. I'll have something to do with scrap.
I've received and motivation to try making a few more. My sister asked for one to replace her wedding ring and a good friend has asked me to make coin rings as a wedding set.
It felt pretty good, who knows maybe in time I will be good enough to sell a few and then I can start buying MS Morgans. ...Funny it always comes back to the Morgans.
