Hi everyone!
I have finished a few coin sets and I'm just wondering what you would recommend for me to do next.
Do most people move onto a new coin set, or do most upgrade their coins?
Thank you!

I'm all over the board so my answer is whatever you feel like at the moment. If I have a chance to upgrade, I do. If I have a chance at coins I don't have, I go for that. I think it's totally up to the individual. This is a fun hobby so my advise is to do whatever your heart desires. Most importantly, Just Have Fun!

For me, upgrading would have to depend on my budget.

I make sure all my coins are SGS MS-70. There's no need to upgrade from there.

I am prolly not like most, I actually sell my sets once they are completed then dive into a different set. Oddly enough its the fun of building them that I enjoy more then simply "having a set". Makes enough money off of it to help me thru college to so not to bad on the wallet either!

I'll let you know when I get all 453 die varieties of bust halves. I have finished a few sets, like roosevelts and jeffersons. Right now, they're just sitting there since I'm focused on busties.

I always give my finished set to the # 7 poster on the thread. oh wait that would be me woo hoo. or I would start upgrading the set the get the best I could afford. and if your set is complete with keys you will find it a lot easier to sell the one coin add a few bucks and get the upgrade or buy then sale what ever you feel most comfortable with Good Luck on it anyway you go. That's funny HABIB lol Gary

I agree with the poster above regarding the 'chase' often being more interesting than having the complete set! Also - planning out & researching potential collecting areas is very interesting for me (and less expensive ;) Having said that, some of my sets can always use improvement. Both my Mercury dime & Washington quarter sets are currently being upgraded as funds permit.

With few exceptions I sell the set and move in another direction. In my lifetime of collecting I have changed gears many times. I have even re-collected some sets that I completed and sold. Mike

"I actually sell my sets once they are completed then dive into a different set."
I have kept a few of the "special" pieces or tough dates from my finished sets, sell the rest then try to incorporate the saved pieces to start a new project.
So, theoretically, when I die I will have amassed a kick @$$ set full of choice, original, eye-appealing key dates. Right?
Edit: Uncle Mike answered the next thought that entered my frontal lobe...How many board members have disassembled/sold of a collection/set only to be pulled back for round two.
I would imagine, with inflated prices of most series, it would be quite frustrating/feeling of regret?

I miss these the most and have started a new quest to collect them again. I will never be able to afford them all, specially in the grades I had

I don't think I've EVER completed a set. My collecting takes many directions at once, and I love it.
Jump around a bit Gold Cert. A little of this, a little of that.
Enjoy the journey!

Seriously, the only set I completed was Roosevelt dimes 1964-2007 (not including Proofs). I need one coin to complete Jefferson nickels 1938-2003 including Proofs. I need 2 coins to complete Washington quarters 1938-1998 - the Keys - 1932-D & 1932-S, which I don't expect anytime soon, unless I find them in circulation. I need 3 coins to complete Mercury dimes - the Keys - 1916-D, 1921 & 1921-D, which again I don't expect anytime soon, unless I find them in circulation. I'm missing 7 coins to complete Lincoln Cents 1909-2007 including Proofs. I hope to soon buy 3 missing Semi-Keys, then I "just" need 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, 1922 Plain & 1931-S. Also missing 1955 Double Die, 1970-S Small Date & 1979-S Type II, but I'm not counting those.

I had the same delima when I bought the last Lincoln for my album, as I started reading more on the Lincoln I realized there were more to get. There were the proofs that are not in the book, there were thousands of varieties, and even more errors. I also started a roll collection to "complete" the set. I also have started to upgrade the ones for the earlier years, that will take a little while.
