...which coins or coin sets would you go after? For instance, many collectors go after modern issues because they're relatively inexpensive to go after unless everything has to be 69/70. But, these same collectors wish at some point in the future to have the funds to go after earlier coinage. Now, this is not a wishful thinking type of question, so answers such as the 1913 Liberty nickel and 1876-CC 20¢ (unless you're already a millionaire) are not the intent of this thread. I'll start. I'd love to do a complete Shield nickel set, but I have more than enough "invested" in other sets, that it's not practical for me to take on yet another set (at this time). As far as stretching it a bit...I really like Half Cents, but a complete set would be huge and very, very expensive for decent, problem free material. Edited by Prethen

I'd like to complete my 7070. Not really going for all high grades. I want to just finish it and slowly upgrade if I could.
And of course I'd buy me a whole bunch of coins from different countries that I don't have yet. Only ones left are kinda outta my price range at the moment.

Here's what I would do. 1-Buy a plastic Whitman year set holder (cent-thru-half or cent-thru-dollar). 2-Pick a year that has coins that interest you (1876, 1921, etc.) or a period of time (Civil War: 1861-65, Martin Van Buren's presidency: 1837-41, etc.) 3-Acquire coins to fill the holder. I like to get coins in similar grades. If you have deep pockets, pick a challenging year/period and/or high grade. If your pockets are not so deep, pick a less challenging year/period and/or lower grade. A Civil War set in G-VG can be had for a modest price. A 1921 year set in high grade will set you back a bit (depending on which mint marks you pursue from that year). With your interest in Half Cents, I'd consider a plastic Whitman State Quarter holder. It will hold 5 Half Cents nicely. Perhaps 5 consecutive years in similar grade ... perhaps 5 different decades? |

I would like to start working on an Indian Head five-cent piece ( Buffalo nickel) collection. I am not sure why but this is really the only 20th century series that I have neglected to collect. I have a few in one of my binders but I just never gave them much thought. Early 1900's silver has overshadowed them for me. I know a lot of collectors start with them though. Jim |

I'm currently collecting the Type-B quarter set (1956-1964) in MS-64+. I'm thinking of going after the Two Cent series next. |

I would go and get the last three proof-only 3CN that I have been lusting after. They are out of my price range but with the fictional scenario of "dispensable income" I would make them mine!  |

I am actually in this position right now since I am expecting my back pay from disability to come any day now and I have pondered over what I really need to do and want to do with some of the money, some with coins and some other stuff. The first thing I am going to do is finish off my Dansco7070 and since this is a pretty large sum of money (going back 5 years of back pay) and since everything including my house that I own is paid for I don't know what will be next but would love to see others opinions

With a few extra $$, I would continue adding early MS Washington quarters (32-41) a bit sooner. I'd also work my way backwards, picking up nice XF SLQ's as the budget permits :) |
