2013-D Nickel: Raised Bump - Coin Community Forum

BlueSolo Pillar of the Community United States 740 Posts	Posted 04/08/2015 08:22 am About 1/5th of the 2013 D nickels I find have this weird bump on them in the same place. The bump extends from the top of the Monticello to the 'E' in "E Pluribus." It is pretty difficult to take a picture of since the bump is not very tall, you can not feel it. What is this? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 04/08/2015 1:34 pm Well nothing from a clash could have caused this: No edges of the field intersect on this area. If might be an over polished area on the die. In the last image you can see the weakening of the dome next to that area. The die may have been polished to remove an imperfection/damage in that area on the reverse die. If you check your coins you will probably find the same markers on each coin if they were all from the same die pair. If you find different markers there may have been more dies affected?
