New penny design coming soon...

What about the dear dime?

Any sign of a new design for our dime?

Dimes have been ignored for a long, long time. They are small and it is difficult to imagine a detailed type similar to State Quarters on that small a size. Note how even the present ones with dates like 2000 where numerous ones barely show the last 0 due to lack of room.
I suspect that the size of the dime would have to be increased by double first.

Thanks Carl..Good point.

Now that you mention the 'ghost' zero, I have noticed it is very faint.
I do think the dime is in need of a new design and with the technology today, one would think it should be a little easier to put a new design on a small coin.

I'm always in favor of a good new design, but I think somehow the dime has become mired in political warfare. Republicans hate FDR and the New Deal's expansion of the federal government. There's a movement to get him off the dime and give it to Reagan. You can imagine how most Democrats feel about that.

Maybe we should push for a nice pretty lady liberty instead?

HMMMM. A Liberty Head on the Dime. Now what if they made one like that and put some Wings on her head in a cap? And then made her facing to the left. Great idea HUH?

I think they missed a chance in 1995~1996 for a 50th anniversary and WWII commemorative series, but they did not have the success of the SHQ to encourage it.

A 60th might have worked in 2005~2006, but with the WJN, it might have been over saturation.

And I am with SBS above. Bring back Lady Liberty, on all denominations!

As always, JMHO, YMMV.

I'd love to see the Mercury dime look come back. I absolutely love the design on that coin.

If they do put a new design on the dime, I hope there won't be an additional 90 designs to it.

I agree with that Amazon, we do not need 6 pages for our books for the year 2009 for example.

New design for the dime?
How about this: Make the dime as big as the "game Tokens", and use the early 1916 design!, but make the date incuse, so it will last longer Put the torch on the reverse, or maybe the statue of liberty? What ever they do, I hope they make the "coin" big enough to handle !

I think that all of the designs are kinda stupid on the new coins and I wish that we could go back to One penny, One dime, One quarter, One dollar coin, One nickel. It all seems like a big scam for money.

The U.S. Mint had succes with the State Quarters and now they want people to keep buying all of their products. If I was to buy the P-D mint sets and both proof sets it would cost around $130 for 2007. What is wrong with that?

If they go for a new design on the dime (which they inevitably will, pending the new penny's success) I hope they give the reverse a rest. The State Quarters were kinda fun at first but tis just getting dragged on now with all of these "collectibles" and stuff---quarters, nickels, two different dollars, pennies, etc, etc, etc. The new pennies are really annoying because they mess up the flow of the whole Small Cent type. Excluding the FE, we got productions runs of '59-'09, '09-'58, '59-'08, '09, '10-xx. It just doesn't flow right. They should have retired the memorial at the end of this year and had a new reverse to take its place for the next fifty years. But I guess they wouldn't be making all that extra profit from selling 12 versions as opposed to selling only three...
