Just thought I'd mention that I saved my Christmas and birthday money, as well as a Christmas bonus from an employer, and bought a coin. 1842 Seated Liberty dollar. 1842. VF+ It had special appeal to me because it was minted exactly 100 years before I was born!

Congrads Gary! The Seated Liberty is without doubt one of the most beautiful coins ever minted by the US. And its always nice to pick up a treasure relating to your birthyear--I've always had a soft spot for coins minted in 1887 :)

Congrats Gary. I have an 1842 also, but your coin may be in better shape than mine. Look at my gallery.

Gary ... good on ya! We are always seeking more converts. Unfortunately, I will not be able to acquire a 100th anniversary coin for myself ... 1852 was a pricey year! I did see a heritage auction this past year for an 1852 restrike in PF 64 ... I think it gavelled for over $50K Oh yeah ... where are those pictures?

Until Gary will grace us with his 1842... here's mine. It's actually more toned now than when the pic was taken. It was dipped by the previous owner and it's been sitting on my bathroom window ledge getting lots of sun and humidity, plus whatever those plants give off.

Hey 1sikevo is that window ledge on the first story or the second story of your house?

It's the one next to the shotgun I check on the coin everyday... make sure it doesn't fall into my wife's potted plants.

Congratulations! I still have my Seated dollar I bought in 1987. Circulated and gray. I don't think I'll ever sell it. BTW, early crowns of Peru--(Un Sol) have a similar design on the reverse.
