Although I too have learned something about fakes, I think there's only so far this can go. I really don't think there's much to fret over with this seller. Still though, I think the thing with the position of the R is a bit suspicious.

You mean, other than they sold this fake:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321910203390
Need-Community-Help-To-Stop-A-Scam-From-Selling-My-Coin

And this fake:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1798-Draped...221915752534

And this fake is still for sale:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1803-Draped...d&rmvSB=true
https://goccf.com/t/247314

Yes, there is really no evidence the seller realizes any of this, and those coins are in real slabs (apart from the 1927-s which was sold unslabbed).

Great work EFLargeCents. Man, what are the chances the same seller would have two fake coins in righteous slabs. This is a first for me.

Either this seller is up to no good or he/she purchased a group of coins from someone who was.

Great numismatic forensics EFLargeCents.

I mentioned this thread to a friend of mine who is a pretty good coin detective, and this is what he said.

"Very interesting thread. That ebay seller, kiki2010hy, is selling all counterfeit die-transfer coins. A friend of mine recently purchased a counterfeit coin from them that was clearly a die transfer coin (in hand): http://www.ebay.com/itm/1878-3-Gold...047675.l2557:

All of their counterfeit coins have some form of "tooling" to remove/cover-up the transfer imperfections. ie:

and

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1796-Draped...AOSwHQ9WYAaV

The NGC and ANACS graders messed up big time."

I asked him what he thought about the OPs coin, and he said he couldn't tell from the photos. Very interesting about the $3 Indian though.

That was my first thought. I am going to ask him about the positive feedback his friend left for the $3 Indian. My only guess is that he left the feedback before he got the bad news. I will ask about it at my next opportunity, maybe tomorrow.

Revised feedback:

If a TPG can figure out who submitted them can they just claim something like "no way!? I've been scammed because I bought them thinking they were genuine!" ?
If not it seems we may see some justice. Apparently NGC knows now and the cert page say to contact them if you have one. At least 1 have already been switched again to "not genuine". It should be pretty easy to find the submission it came from id imagine.
I think it's astounding they were able to get so many fakes in real holders.

should we make a separate thread to deal with the counterfeit in real holders side of where the threads going?
Because otherwise I don't feel this is a dead end thread circling the drain. The third party graders have only started to look into it. Still lots of unanswered questions and mysteries. PCGS has just said they are looking into it as well. I'm sure anacs has been notified as well.

Well, thinking a little more about this seller, I wonder if the problem coins were also purchased through craigslist. Hopefully an investigation by the grading companies will lead to the original culprit or culprits.

I would still like to see photos of the OP coin taken by @hoosiergator. I think there are enough surface anomalies in the fields to possibly determine if they are the same coin.

Update:
I have kept quite as the police were contacted. The gentleman I sold the REAL coin too was telling the truth and he freely admits that when I contacted HIM about the coin on ebay he was suspicious that HE was somehow the victim of a scam.

Once we came to realize that were both suspicious of one another we realize that this jerk on ebay was the scam artist.

I still have no idea how he got the pictures to make such a good counterfeit. We believe at this time the coin in the ebay listing was its own counterfeit and not a stolen picture. I never sent a picture like that.

I no longer own the genuine coin but the real owner has filed an IC3 report and did contact ebay Trust & Security.
Rest in Peace

Hoosiergator. How long ago did you purchase the coin that you sold (how long was it in your collection before you sold it).

I've bought many coins from this site, just to resell. Occasionally, I'll receive "nice flip" or such.
And there was the gentleman sophisticant who messaged me " lowball the heck outta me to make a killing"
I just met his opening bid & had no other players. Some people.
