As you may have noticed, I haven't really posted here for a while (2-3 weeks!). The reason for this is that I have really been focusing on my school work and grades, coupled with the fact that I have just gotten sucked into another massive hobby that sucks the money out of your wallet: Militaria (the collecting of army/navy/etc. stuff). Anyways, just wanted to say that I'm back now and I hope to start posting again soon when I get home from my dads house!

Good for you on focusing on your grades! You are at the time of your life that lays the foundation for the rest. I am sure others here will applaud this show of character. It will be good to have you back here though

Seems to me that you're broadening your interests - a good thing in most people's estimation! A wise man used to open his 4-day seminars with this question: "Why are we here?" His first response to his own question was to have fun. The third response was "To preserve and nurture the yearning for learning each of us is born with." I like the two answers together because it encapsulates the fun we all have in learning. Tie that to your experience here in this forum and now with military items and history. A perfect fit. It's fascinating to me that you can start out to learn one thing and then how it leads to the next..and the next...and the next. I hope you maintain that level of curiosity and interest until your dying breath. In deed I hope that for everyone else (e.g. Earle's and Buddy's interest in Railroad subject matter). Learning is a lifelong proposition; continue to expand it. And on the subject of grades: I never discuss these with my children. The focus is on learning and as each of us has experienced, some folks will grade high or low regardless of the learning or work that actually took place; the correlation is inexact and unhelpful to the process. Learning how to learn and maintaining the curiosity we are born with are essential. Grades and gold stars are not. Get the most out of life by continual education. Good to have you back Child! Remember to optimize your learning time just as you should optimize your down time too.

Wise choice young man! I was a little punk when I was a kid, or younger in general for that matter. I'm what your era would call"an old man". (Although really not that old) But it took me well into my years before I finally caught on. I give you props for doing the right thing.
Although your/our hobby effects the wallet. At least you are putting your good old greenbacks toward something that will yeild a return. As opposed to partying, gaming, or any number of other stupid things kids waste their money on. Not really exact on your age group so take no offense to examples. Never the less... Good on you!

It is great to hear you are back and even better to learn that your absence was because of your excellent decision making.
I look forward to hearing more from you. I've always enjoyed your posts in the past.

I'm finishing up my senior year in college and understand how school can completely take you away from the hobby. It's beautiful that it's a life long hobby, and you'll have time to catch up!
Work hard, trust me it'll pay off. Glad to have you back.

You can be a numismatist without owning a single coin. Many of us go through slow collecting periods of our life but come back recharged and ready to add to our previous collections.
