Civil War/Hard Times token.

Some person, a long time ago, probably decided to try and give the "token" a status up-grade to "coin" (legal tender) status by scratching out the word "Not".

Although only one cent was involved it would help buy something that someone needed. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

Is it me or does the seller not know what they are selling here?

This is a common variety CWT. The damage makes it worth under $10, I'd say. I doubt it's copper-nickel and looks to be copper. Considering the seller's large, numismatic inventory, I find it surprising that he didn't seem to comprehend the true nature of this token.

It looks like someone crudely tried to remove the NOT.

Looks like the seller ended the listing after I told him/her what it was.

Not that it really matters, but the listing says "This listing has ended." which is the normal message for a listing that ends without bids.
