The building was constructed in 1901 by the banking firm of Hogg, Cheeseman, MacDonald & Company Bankers. By the time the building was finished, the three men decided to conduct business as a national bank.

The First National Bank of Meeteetse was organized July 7, 1902 with a capital of $25,000. At its helm was W. T. Hogg as President with W. Dean Hays as Cashier.

The first type of currency printed for the bank was Series 1902 Red Seals in the $5, $10 and $20 denominations. 353 sheets of fives, 295 sheets of the 10-10-10-20. As of November 3, 2016 a lone $5 Red Seal is reported on this bank.

The bank issued Series 1902 blue seals in two types: Date Backs and Plain Backs in the same three denominations as above. Total number of sheets for the $5 was 1,278. 906 sheets with three $10's and one $20.

Current census shows: 2 $5 Date Backs, 5 $5 Plain Backs and 2 $10 Plain Backs.

FNB of Meeteetse ordered very limited quantities of Series 1929 currency. 266 sheets of fives, 138 sheets of tens and 41 sheets of twenties. Grand total of Series 1929 currency issued was $21,180. The census shows a single note reported for the three denominations.

Heritage has sold two notes on this bank. A $10 Plain Back and a $5 Date Back https://currency.ha.com/c/search-re...veTab-071515

Lyn Knight auctioned the sole Series 1929 $20 back in 2007 it brought $9,200.

I found this presentation that tells all about the bank, its officers and more. There are some neat pictures included and well worth a look. http://s3images.coroflot.com/user_f...846wnjHc.pdf

Great story on a neat bank!

Looks like someone has taken the bank building and turned it into a residence. Nice!

Love these write ups.

I've seen several old bank buildings with this design.

The former bank has been restored and turned into a museum and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

According their website the museum has banking ledgers, signature cards, photographs, the original vault and other items.

If I were ever out that direction I'd sure take a trip there to enjoy it in person. -MV

Though not a currency collector ,I find these articles on old banks fascinateing.
I especially like the original note warning the bank that the Hole in the Wall Gang might be robbing it on a specific date.
