Hello. I have been hanging onto a $1 U.S note for quite a while, thinking it could have some value. I was rejected by a "special serial number buyer", which downed my hopes a bit. The serial number is 37744407. Is it to be spent, or held onto?

A spender for sure. Except for low-digit notes (and I suppose birthday notes), most "fancy serial number" notes of any value have a mathematical symmetry or progression to them that is easy to recognize with a little experience.

Is this still a thing ?

I haven't heard anyone playing this in decades.

As for the OP's serial #, I do not see anything special about it and would not hesitate to return it to circulation.

No one will ever pay a premium for this bill, no matter how ridiculous the logic for keeping it.
