Good Day Everyone,

Acquired a few 1963 5 dollar bills today and this one stuck out like a sore thumb. I'm not familiar with paper currency as much as I am with coins. I am humbly asking for help identifying this type of error, if that's what it is. Thanks a million! Jon

I would have to agree that it looks like solvent smears.

If we awarded prizes for solvent smears, this would surely be in the running.

Thanks Coinfrog for the welcome! And thank everyone for your input. My first guess was it took a good stomping from a dirty tennis shoe, but then after taking a closer look and realizing that it was ink made me delve further into the cause of this atrocity! :) Thanks for enlightening me, Jonathan

How can a parallel hashmark pattern be attributable as a solvent smear? Every solvent smear I have seen is exactly that- a smear, not a defined pattern.
