Although I can't find a listing for this, this looks like an RPM to me. Thoughts? Also, sorry for the picture quality. These pictures were rather more difficult to get than I'd expected. I hope they show enough.

You know, that looks exactly like the mintmark used on pennies from that year. On cents, that's not a split serif but a die chip out of the corner. For years it was thought to be an RPM, but isn't.

I can't honestly say if the same mint mark punch was used on both cent and nickel dies or not. Makes sense it would, same diemakers at the mint. Good question for Coop!

I believe they were used for more than one denomination for business strikes. I remember reading about that somewhere.

This proves the fact that the mint mark punches were used for different denominations. This is from the same damaged punched that we see so often on cents.

Interesting, though also a bit of a bummer. I didn't know about the broken MM punch until now.

Just a new thing to file in the memory files.
We often get the question on the cents as being RPMs, but they are not.
Just another example of a damaged punch use on a die that year.

Coop, how common is this among different denomination coins, cents/nickel/dimes? May be a way to correlate between them?
Thought this looked the same, learned years ago by being fooled on the 79 cent RPM, took a while to find the real one to compare to.

Well, I can confirm it's on the dime as well. Here's a picture. Just found this.

I'll have to see if I can find it on a quarter, too.
