Hello members,

I have been looking for a decent, non-cleaned (or market acceptable) Barber half for about 6 months now..

I've looked at thousands of coins in eBay/HA, and many times, I came across eBay seller M Barr Coin.

He usually has thousands of coins for sale, but frankly speaking, his pictures do not look authentic in most cases (or too bright) to judge the coin properly. (IMO)

I wonder if anyone has purchased coin(s) from the seller and had experiences on how the pictures compared to the coins received.

Example link - Can't tell if below Barber is cleaned or if it has some luster

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1893-Barbe...362234714797

Your comments are appreciated.

I've purchased several coins from him recently (last year) and they have always been better looking in hand than his photos.

In my own opinion this coin displays NO luster , either cleaned or over dipped . Also obverse face is chock full of pock marks . Run Forest Run !

Joe, don't like those stains, could be a cleaning gone bad, but also just circulation stains, hard to say. It has been around some.

I have purchased from M Barr Coins, and have been satisfied every time. However, you still want to examine the coin in the images, no matter how reputable the seller is.

I've made many purchases with this seller in the past couple years (all pennies), and never an issue.
Sometimes he's got some wild prices on a coin for no reason, and he/she's usually not very flexible on best offers - but, never an issue.

I recently offered 60 on a 70 dollar large cent and they accepted the offer.

50 or 53. Probably dipped.

Are you avoiding NGC or PCGS for raw for a reason?

Coins over $300 are most often submitted if they don't have a problem.

Generous no questions asked return policy. Only about 3 bucks to lose on return shipping.

Doesn't look cleaned to me, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been cleaned. Pretty baggy on the face. For over $300, I'd rather buy a certified coin in a slab and crack it out if I wanted the raw coin.

The vendor has a return policy, if you want to try your luck with this coin.

I would suggest purchasing one that you might be interested in and if you like it keep it, if you don’t then return it. He has a 30 day return policy on all of his coins, what have you got to lose? The problem with getting people’s opinion on whether a coin has problems or not is that they are not holding the coin in hand and are taking a guess AND their opinion might not be the same as yours. YOU are the buyer of the coins that YOU want. It sounds like many people have bought from him and are happy with their purchases.

I've bought quite a few coins from them and as Dave says, the coins are always better than pictured. He leaves money on the table with poor pics.

Thank you everyone for helpful comments.

I'm just getting frustrated trying to find a problem-free XF+ or better example at reasonable price, slabbed or raw.

This coin is not in consideration to purchase. Just a picture example of Barber half from the seller.

I do prefer a slabbed one. All the ones I like are pretty expensive so far, both eBay and HA. I guess I just need to wait longer.
