stop government spending and keep a penny worth a penny, first it was gold in '33- then silver, and now copper- remember the phrase " not worth a Continental " ? inflation is an unseen tax given to you by bankers.

I voted stop minting. It's ridiculous that it costs so much to mint a cent. I think that the US should do what many other countries have done and stop minting lower value coins that cost more than they're worth.

That's not to say I don't like Lincoln cents. I just think that the metal content changes needed to make this coin economical are going to change these so much that they won't be the same.

When the Lincoln Cent was first coined in '09, it cost about 11/100 of a cent to make. There has always been seignorage, including the first run of coins at Philadelphia in 1793. I seem to recall when the govt. attempted to create a "metric" coin at parity with other currencies by metal value alone, it was a bit of a disaster. Since the value of metals is set by markets--which cannot be fixed by govts., changing the coin composition somehow to follow market trends is a crazy way to coin, if you ask me.

As much as I like the Lincoln Cent, let's restrict the series to collector coins (in copper). At the Mint's price, there would be seignorage too.

I voted for changing the cents composition. I tried to put myself in the shoes of a Lincoln Cent collector. I would feel really bad if a series I collect was going to end.

I think it's a bad idea- imagine having one penny from every bank account in America, when you say No Penny you are giving the bankers just that. Imagine if our fiat paper fed script was still silver coinage and gold dollars? The inflation we are being eaten alive by is a direct result of being off the gold standard- our country was Founded on Sound Money, it's one of our Rights. Our Nation has been in the tubes since the "federal reserve act" giving private bankers control of the job Congress should be doing. I say return to the Large Cent because our Dollar is so strong!

It seems to be a case of practicality versus sentimentality.

My heart says continue the cent. My head says no. Lincolns were the first coins I collected from circulation. I would be saddened to see them go. Even now, I add each year as they appear. My collection is complete, sans one.

I didn't vote. Not enough choices. For example there should be a choice do nothing as already noted. I do not know how to quote anyone. Sure wish there was a quote thing here somewhere.
Of course there should be a dual thing called change the metal and the design.
Could be a replace the one cent with a Two Cent coin.
Change the metal, the design and then stop making.
Have the pennie out sourced to China. Would be cheaper and probably made of Lead.
Add a suggestion/help desk conserning the cent and have the help desk located in India so no one can get an answer.
Stop making the Cent and Nickel and lower our taxes accourdingly. Yeah, right.

Someone with some sense, finally.
I can't believe all the sheeple out there.

They took us off gold and silver for 2 reasons:
1: They could then print money at will, without
worrying about being able to back the money.

2: They could rob the citizens of their precious
metals since they would serve no purpose to own
without needing them to back currency. You'll note
that Ft. Knox is empty now...

They stuck it to us from the front and back with
that one!

Now that most folks are dependent on government,
and don't question, it's too late. Welcome to
hyperinflation folks! They have kept their
dirty dealings in a box by lowering interest rates
and keeping the inflation index appearing
well. Now they can't lower the interest rate any
further, and keeping fuel prices out of the cost of
living index and inflation index is useless.
And YES, the government has never included fuel
costs in their inflation indexes!!
Sneaky! Can't hide it now.

Yeah, it is a pain to quote on this board
for some reason. (smiles are goofy too)

Stop minting

Not enough choices.
I wouldn't want any of these 3.

Can't wait until we have circulating
3 trillion dollar bills! We won't be arguing
about pennies anymore. Should be do away
with small change like the 100 million
dollar bill?
