If I were in your shoes, this is what I would do.
I would start off with sending off the key coins to be properly graded. There will be no doubts about the authenticity, grade and if the coin has been cleaned or damaged, which would significantly affect the value.
Then, I would subscribe to get the CDN Greysheet, including the supplements. This is THE price table most dealers use.
Next, I would contact reputable dealers, preferably NGC or PCGS certified, and get a few quotes.
Only then can you know the approximate worth of the collection and you'll be able to fairly parcel it out among siblings and/or relatives. You can then decide how to save sets but only after you determine value.
Hope this helps.

You need to remember that this is going to take a bit of time to do. If you rush then you are never going to maximize the collection's full potential. If your brothers don't need the money right away, tell them to chill for a bit. The coins are only going to appreciate with time, so tell them not to rush. Also, where are you located? Maybe if a forum member lives near you they can help you out? Or maybe they could recommend an honest dealer/friend that could be of help?

You are all very helpful, and I appreciate your concern. Don't worry about me selling these for any less than they are worth. This last few weeks have been very enlightening. The web page of the place I took them is mainstreetcoin.com, I met with the two owners together and they examined the "big guns" and used the grey sheets to provide the value. If they were intentionally lo balling it won't matter because I haven't agreed to sell them anything.

Welcome to the community, I, as you, are new to this site. I just found your topic. Haven't had time to read all 8 pages yet, but what I've read is interesting. I'm across the river in the Ft. Mitchell area of KY. If you have not already consulated a dealer, as to the value, try Coins PLUS. They have stores in Florence, Northgate and Downtown Cincinnati. One of the owners (Brad) I believe is a good person. He has helped me a couple times with coins that I had questions with. I hope this has helped.

I am currently inspecting and grading each coin (using the RedBook as guidance) if I have any questions I'll check your guy.

I got a call from the coin dealer and he said the 2 coins are both authentic. I'll post some pics tomorrow night.

All I can say is.. WOW. What an awesome collection, although I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom.

If I read your previous post right, the coins you're looking at now are just a portion of the overall collection that was initially split up? Wow, again..

Good luck - you seem to be on the right path (getting hooked! ) and as you can see, everyone here is more than willing to help. Looking forward to seeing more!
