I finally have a little time , so I thought I would share some of my recent acquisitions. The past few weeks have been hectic , and I have missed a couple Wednesdays and another Saturday working at the shop- that really bums me out ! But I have managed to get in there enough to get some things for myself and search the mounds of coins that have been coming in.
After searching the
War Nickels a couple months ago, the bin (an ammo box ) is overflowing again, as are the
Buffalo nickels that I just finished awhile back...and I still have several hundred Indian head pennies to sort. How awesome is that !

The volume of business done at this particular shop amazes me, and it has not stopped for almost a year now. The scrap silver and gold outweigh the coinage, but there is still much more coinage to sort than possible with the number of employees present.
Last week Saturday, a regular silver buyer came in to purchase...you guessed it...silver.He likes the .999 rounds, but will buy anything that is marked .999- if it ain't marked- he ain't interested. I showed him our stock and the bin of rounds, and when I looked in the cabinet I saw a couple really interesting looking rounds. I checked out the rounds while he was looking ...and ...big mistake...mentioned how cool I thought they were. He was not interested at first , but after finding little more to tickle his fancy , he asked to see them. I will now remember to keep my big mouth shut ! Thankfully , he moved on and I quickly put the silver rounds in my envelope. Someone must have had a whole set of these since later in the day I found several more in one of the melt buckets in the vault. I took only one more from there for myself. I really liked these because of the extremely high relief , I have not seen anything like this before...anyone familiar with this particular set ?

I believe there was a whole set of these, but Washington and Lincoln were in the case, and I grabbed Kennedy out of the bucket. They are abut 3/4 of an ounce each, and the whole set would be a bit costly.
I then offered to help Clyde on Sunday (they are closed) and he said okey dokey. My first task was to get to the shelf in the vault with the rejects on it. This shelf has proof sets, mint sets, commemoratives and the like that have no boxes, COA's , or inferior or damaged coins , or missing or damaged packaging. Sounds like fun right ? Well it was more fruitful that you would think. I found a 1971-S brown Ike Peg Leg Proof. These are pretty common , but still are worth a premium over a regular one. It did not have the brown box, but we get lots of empties when we break out the 71's and 72's for melting. Here is the peg leg, the "Peg Leg" denoting the fact that the "R" in LIBERTY has no serif as it should.

I searched the 71-S Blue Ikes for the peg leg (that's the high dollar coin) but didn't find any of those- yet !
I also found several modern proof sets on the shelf. Most are half sets, I guess they sold the 1c, 10c, 50c and 1$ and kept the
State Quarters from the sets. Alot of them are 1999 sets...can you see where I am going with this ? I piled the 99's together for later examination. When I looked at the sets, I was very happy- I found my second 1999
Close AM Lincoln proof in two months !

It was in a clad set, none found in silver sets yet- anyone else know of a silver set
Close AM find yet ? Got through about half of the stuff on that shelf (there is ALOT of stuff there) I also knocked the stones out of a bunch of rings bought for scrap..You out there KurtS ? I don't have a picture of the close AM- sorry- but I do have a picture of a neat carved stone from a ring...wanna see ?

KurtS, I will be sending you some more stones soon...but I won't say when, you'll have something to look for in the mail

Wednesday when I got there it was very busy (Ed is off this week). As I walked by the cases I noticed something you don't see very often . Clyde said it was the second one he bought in 25 years. Check this out..

Yea, it's a 32.15 ounce gold bar, a $28,000 chunk of gold you could fit in your pocket ! Cool
When I work at the shop, I always encourage people that try to pay with exact change - not to ! The best change ever can be had here ! Nothing really great, but collectible stuff for sure. I got this one out of the register this week.

When's the last time you got a 30 year old Washington in change that looked that good ! I get a few nice early
LMC's and there are always old nickels in there. I don't know if all the B&M stores are like this, but I would always get change from a coin shop !
Getting long here, but I will try to make it longer....

Next up , some of the toners I have gotten over the last month. Some are real nice, some just interestingly toned- beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you be the judge.

This
Mercury dime really got my attention, I am still not sure whether I like the toning or if I like it cause it's different...what ya think ?
Quite colorful, I lean towards NT, but t could be AT..any opinions ?

Now, these Walkers were purchased a few months ago, I have never seen anything like the toning on these, I guess it could be classified as damage. The toning is sooooo thick on these coins...Could these be an experiment in Artificial Toning ? Strange toning on the obverse and white reverse.

One more toner ... This one came in late Saturday afternoon, I like the look and condition for a coin that was on a money clip, and when it was removed and I saw the reverse, I bought it.

OK, I am going to wrap it up ...for now...I have several other coins to post in other forums. I will try to get to them tonight and post the links here for interested parties. Before I go I want to show you one more piece of silver. Over the years Clyde (shop owner) has commissioned a couple of dies for the making of some rounds. The first one I believe was a 1 ounce round to commemorate the arrival of a couple of Pandas at the Toledo Zoo on loan from China...a big deal around here in the early eighties. The other was for the shop. Clyde is known around here as "The Silver Bull" , He has hoarded silver for years and his vanity plate reads "AG BULL" . The shop shirts have the logo on this round on the back of them . I like the logo side, but the Toledo Coin Exchange side is a bit plain. There were only 5000 of these struck...

I plan to give one of these "Silver Bull" rounds away to someone in the forum as soon as I can think of a good way to involve everyone. Any suggestions for this giveaway would appreciated. You all have a great day..I'll be back later !
