Definitely worth a submittal, with opting for a variety attribution.

Thank you guys for your time and input!I'm happy to see that this topic took a different turn as the first replies made me question my decision,in fact I stil cannot understand how someone can come up with a decisive opinion so fast and without an argument.I'm surprised that no one assumed that I might be a guy that makes forgeries and is trying to test you but it's not too late!!

Did search a bit but couldn't find any 1809 50 cents looking like mine!

paulCT, I wasn't sure if the coin was fake just from your photos in the first post, but your second post convinces me that the coin is fake.

Should I understand that the context of my purchase is a clear sign of a forgery?Really?I've been collecting coins for 20 years now and I've dealt with all kinds of people so I tend to notice when someone is acting. The seller, who was not and english native, nor am i,was complaining about his car's engine making a funny noise while I was explaining to him that the A mintmark on his bavarian thaler comes from Amberg!I could have bought the 50 cents coin for 10£,in fact I could have bought the coin that I went for cheaper since he was clueless about numismatics!Feel free to contest that coin too,it's the last post on the world crown topic!

No one called you stupid. were we come from you cant buy a $200.00 coin For $20.00.

From my experience, numismatics is the business of ''you never know''.I was ''rewarded'' for my dedication with great coins that came to me at 20% of their real value quite a few times. In UK collectors mostly focus on english and ancient coins, everything else is less collected.I totally agree with
Jadey on this one!

I admit that I should have posted better pictures along with the weight and diameter in the beginning,it would have saved alot of energy.Judging a coin soley on some pictures can be tricky,i had my wrong calls in the past and probably submitting the coin seems like the best thing to do now.Thank you once again!

If this is a genuine O-109b, it is a Rarity 4 (61-200 known) but more likely 5 (31-80 known) variety so it is scarce/rare. The O-109a is only Rarity 2 (500-1000 known). It would be well worth your while to have PCGS attribute the coin variety on the label if you have it graded. A variety collector may pay a significant premium.

Obverse: 5 (Second Marriage)
Reverse: G
O-109 R3 (Prime, III edge) is below, O-109a R2 (III edge) is at middle, and O-109b R4 (III edge) is at bottom.
Tough to determine the true rarity of the die states, but the 'b' die state may be more of an R5 than an R4. There are a decent handful of higher grade examples for this die marriage.

I'd like to know where @nss-52 stands on this after his strong initial reaction.

1st time seeing this thread. 99.998% sure it is genuine and my best (made the most money on) US coin purchases all came from Europe. The 1804 Quarter I picked up in 2017 comes to mind. I love the originality of this coin. That's one reason I search for US coins overseas. Most have not been cleaned.

Oh, and IMHO it's a minimum XF-45 and value is $400.00+. Just my opinion. Get this graded!
