Still struggling with nickels. Can one of those who know more about them than I do let me know if this is FS-101? I am seeing a strong split on the tail of the 3, similar doubling across the devices, and minor doubling on the LLO on the reverse with is a VV marker for this variety. But there is no die scratch from the R to the T of LIBERTY which seems to be the key die marker to look for.

Any help appreciated.

Looks like it to me. Yours might be an earlier die stage than VV and PCGS, because the Die gouge from the R-T in LIBERTY is not on your coin. The correct Doubling on the reverse and obverse shows up though, so I'm voting yes, it is FS-101. Nice find! Hopefully some other opinions will be thrown in.....

I'm in no way an expert on Jefferson nickels in fact far from it. But I did study a lot of Jefferson nickel die varieties back when I actively hunted them. I believe that this is a precursor stage to FS 101. It's quite interesting as some of the markers are present and others are not.

A fresh pair of eyes on your coin vs. DDO-002...My concern is in the location of IN GOD, if in a earlier die state than C,I would expect your I in IN to be more pronounced. Then again the reverse looks spot on. However, I shouldn't even be answering this question, because you asked for someone who knows more on nickels than you.

DDO..yes, but which one,If it was my coin seems like it could take awhile to tell...Good luck...nice coin

Thanks for the comments! Seems like mostly it is FS-101 but without the main die marker. Of course, a coin can't "mostly" be a certain doubled die so I will keep thinking this one over but I can't find anything else that matches it except for FS-101 in all other aspects. That big split on the 3 is telling, and unless there is a master die doubling on the LLO on the reverse that has to be a solid marker. Wish it were straightforward, but sometimes it's not.

TB , I don't think your coin is 101. The doubling at the base of the 1 in the date is wrong. Looks closer to 007 . Markers could be a die dot to the east of the 9 in the date and two die scratches to the west of the first T of Trust

Stoneman227:

I respectfully disagree that this is DDO-007 on VV. The Star next to the date on 007 does not match TB's coin. 007 splits at a different elongation (forgot what the 5 extensions of the star are called) of the star and the split on the tail of the 3 for 007 is not as pronounced. 007 seems thicker to me as well, with stronger separation lines on the bottom of the devices. Hope this can help. Remember I'm no expert, this is IMOHO.

I feel it is not that die. Note the foot on the '1' on the date. The spread is wider on one side and your coin shows the opposite.

Other areas also look different.
