Obvious wear on the high points of the design, both sides.
EF45, with a lovely, rich chocolate patina.

Judging from the fruit in the cornacopia and the crown jewels, I'd say XF-40

Grade +/- «EF-40».

Variety Courteau #016 (Rarety 2). According to my estimates to date, this variety represents about 2.9% of all 1/2 Penny 1850 issued. So it is a relatively common variety. Description of this variety from my book:
Quote:
Obverse: Perfect letters. With a small line on the horse below man's thigh. From perfect and broken dies. When broken, with die cracks to letters «upPer canaDa».

Reverse: Stands of «TokeN» are weakly struck. The right stand of letter «banK» is fully struck. From perfect and broken dies. When broken, with several die cracks, especially to the left of upper rosette and through letter «halF».

Thanks for all the opinions and comments. I had originally thought possibly AU, but I can see the wear on the high points could hold it down to an EF, so I'll mark it that way. Still learning about grading on these tokens.

Thanks for the Courteau attribution ainsivalavie.

If it helps some people, here is part of the description that will be in my next book on the subject. Unfortunately, this one is only in French for the moment.

Moreover, note that this is a draft and not the final version, and that it is only partial (The subject concerns several dozen pages in my book in preparation). Thank you for your understanding.

Note that the examples below are for Half Penny only. Indeed, although the designs are similar with One Penny tokens, the wear points are not necessarily the same depending on the grade. In addition, there are also slight distinctions according to the year of issue. This is only a typical case for a small part of the design of each side. And this is still just a draft here...

Thanks for that grading information ainsivalavie.

I should have paid more attention those three years in high school French class. Thankfully, you have pictures.
