If you collect the modern commemoratives, do you just get the coin or do you get the various packages they came in as well?

If it's just the standard mint box packaging I don't really care about the OGP. There are some special sets where the packaging would matter or would want it denoted on the label if it's a graded coin but overall I don't really care about standard packaging.

All of that OGP takes up a LOT of space. I switched to PCGS 69 slabs long ago

Yes, I was looking at the statue of liberty half and the other commemorative half dollars (since I collect Franklin and Kennedy half dollars). It gets out of hand very quickly. The statue of liberty half dollar is found in (1) proof, (2) uncirculated, (3) 2 coin proof with dollar, (4) 2 coin uncirculated, (5) 3 coin proof with dollar and $5 gold coin, (6) 3 coin uncirculated, (7) 6 coin set and (8) prestige mint set. Then there are some available with stamps, not officially from the USPS I think. Maybe the first four are good enough, since I guess I wouldn't mind having the silver dollar too. Gold piece is too rich for me. Maybe I would get only (3) and (4). Or just get the proof and uncirculated half without the ogp.

True story. I have much of my normal OGP in boxes to save (tons of) room in the safe.

You can certainly go crazy with the modern commems. 2019 Apollo is about as nuts as I've seen it with all the various packaging and products and joint ventures with other countries. Throw in the intaglio prints and the currency products along with the silver, gold and clad coins, and it's a pricey endeavor to say the least. Some stick to a schedule and only collect the $1 silver proofs, or 50-cent uncirculated, whatever. Something like that may be an easier entry into collecting this series.

I only have OGP when I get direct from the mint. Everything else has been raw (to go into albums). I will eventually buy the four Ike related dollars (1990 and 2013) in PCGS slabs.
