@csmn, that series of parallel impressions in the surface of the coin is damage. One possibility is that the edge of another Kennedy half dollar was pushed against this coin. Normally we don't see these marks being so extensive though so perhaps this was intentional rather than through incidental contact.

PSD but not from the edge of another coin. It is too long and too wide. You would have to stand the coin on edge and then roll it down the coin while applying a lot of pressure. Also the marks are too deep and the spacing isn't right to be the reeded edge of a coin.

It probably is the edge of another coin. The scratches indicate this coin may have been stored loosely in a coin bag, which may have been very heavy and sat for years.
