PCGS - Ranked number six in the award-winning book, 100 Greatest U.S. Coins, with just 24 minted and 19 distributed, the 1894-S Dime is one of the most rare and popular branch mint coins known. Once residing in the collection of Los Angeles sports icon, Dr. Jerry Buss, this PCGS PR63BM graded piece will be offered for the first time in 31 years at the ANA World's Fair of Money, Thursday, August 15, 2019 through Stack's Bowers.

I have a feeling DL Hansen will be in attendance for this coin for his set. It's one that DL would need to continue to have the best set with no worry of anyone taking it away from him. It's not complete without this when one can afford it. I take that back he has the second best set.....He will most definitely be going after this. This would be the pinnacle of proof Barber dime sets.

Since the prr 66 BM went for nearly 2 million a few years ago...I'd say 950k - 1.2 mill or higher if there's a fight for it between the top 3 needing it for best set. With 9 known in existence and four being sold at auction during last 15 years the sky could be the limits....$1.5 tops I'd say for eternal bragging rights on the line. lol

Essentially 8 now. One of them was stolen and if it hasn't been recovered by now it probably never will be

Sure, just like a lot of stolen artwork.

Yes the BM is to indicate Branch Mint Proof, which it isn't. They were struck as business strikes, recorded as business strikes and handled as business strike. But they are the first pieces from brand new sharp crisp dies. They weren't called "proofs" until over 50 years after they were made.

Aside from the obvious that art is a lot bigger, coins can be easily changed to never be able to be matched up again where art cannot. Right or wrong stolen art gets more resources too as they can be considered national treasures. There's still a missing 1854-S $5 that was stolen in 1967 and never seen since.
