Hi all,

I bought this fella. No ID, but it looks medieval. Anyone willing to share their knowledge?

Thanks in advance,

Kaj

It looks to me like a woman holding a hedge trimmer on her shoulder plus a lion with two flowers coming out of his back.

I got nothing.

Probably Mamluks but either an over-strike or a flip-over double strike.

Thanks for the reactions. @ Kushanshah, could you hint where I need to look for on the Mamluk area? :)

The 2nd image is a lion left. Several Mamluk sultans used the lion on their coins. That combined with the fancy border details might get you somewhere.

Thanks :) I was looking for those elements, but haven't found anything similar so far (apart from the lion) Some elements on this coin such as the "branch" (1st pic, bottom) and numerous other elements on the coins as well, were not on the Mamluk lion coins listed here http://numismatics.org/digitallibra...5/nnan55713, which makes me think on which layers this coin was struck. Maybe older (even ancient?) coins? I will look further. Thanks for the lead Kushanshah. Brilliant as always.
