I've had this coin for something like 35 years now. Nice coin with plenty of detail, and as far as I can tell, never cleaned.

However, it does show a peculiar weakness at the lower reverse, specially at
QU(AR.) affecting also a few of the edge beads adjacent to it.

A fellow in another forum mentioned the interesting possibility this could be due to a debris (grease?) filled die. This sounds like a likely cause to me from what I have subsequently read.

What do you all think - grease-filled die a possibility?

I agree that it is a distinct possibility as it doesn't look like damage, but have you ruled out a thin planchet? Is the weight within mint tolerances?

At first I thought it might be damage, but grease must be the cause here. Beautiful example!

Thank you, Spence and Coinfrog.
Spence, I have not done the obvious which you mention (weigh the coin). This is something I need to do when I visit the SDB next.
It does 'look' correct, however.

COinfrog said exactly why I saw as well. First thought it was damage then looking closer it appears to be grease filled die.
