I bought these three on eBay several years ago for, I think, a total of $26. The seller said that they were returned from PCGS without holders. I have no idea how much he paid for the coins, but the grading fees and shipping had to have cost more than a hundred bucks. He did hint at the fact that PCGS could have been wrong in their assessment that these coins were counterfeit, but who knows the true story. I do have the rejection labels from PCGS, but I can't locate them right now.

Do you have any counterfeit coins like these? Modified real coins? Post them here if you'd like. I would love to see what's out there.

Edit: Clarification. I know these are counterfeit.

Notoriously difficult to catch counterfeits as the coins themselves had so many die and striking issues.

The only things I see that are the least bit strange are the dates. But dates were often overstuck and dies could be used far past their prime.

I would suggest looking over PCGS and NGC to see if they have matching dates for what you have.

The dates on all three really look "funny" and weird.

Agree the date logos are clearly off here, especially on the 1880.

I bought them as counterfeits. I had no question about that, and I thought it was funny that the seller questioned PCGS on the fact that they said they weren't genuine. I was curious to see how they were made and how close they were to the real thing.

Just wanted to share them with the CCF and to see if anyone else had counterfeit or modified originals that they wanted to post.

Pacificoin, Do you know where this type of counterfeit came from? I would like to know the background on them.

I've been looking for those at coin shows lately but no one seams to have them. Might be why so many fakes of those are popping up.
