PCGS - Words can't adequately describe this new TrueView. With an estimated mintage of 22 and 15 survivors, at PCGS PR69, this 1907 Saint-Gaudens Ultra High Relief Lettered Edge Double Eagle stands alone as the finest known.

That's a solid 10 out of 10, or 20 out of 20, as the case may be!
This makes me with they would redesign all of today's circulating coinage. I feel the coins we have now are kind of plain and ugly and the designs are outdated. I would LOVE to see a Standing Liberty design on the quarter again!

yep, that's pretty sweet. the design has a real Metropolis feel to it. I like the coin designs from that era.

That's a high relief, not an ultra high relief, different type of coin. The high relief coins required three blows of the coining press with annealing between strikes, the Ultra high reliefs took nine to eleven blows to fully strike up. Both completely impractical and the reason they eventually switched to the low or regular relief version that could be struck with a single blow.

A minor point: I have always thought that the later design with the motto below the flying eagle is a better design, because the addition of the extra lettering below the eagle helps to balance the large amount of lettering above the eagle.
Pity the motto wasn't on the high relief coins.
?Thoughts from anybody else?

The motto may help artistically, but I object to its inclusion.
