So there is going to be a separate auction for each coin in the set, after which the entire set will go up for the sum of all the pieces +$1. If anyone bids, winner takes all.

Anybody got an extra half mil laying around?

Taking all bets - what will he the final price? I would be surprised if some fat cat didn't scoop everything up at the end, but I suppose anything is possible...

What did it sell for in the 1973 auction per the tag?

@Oriole, I couldn't find that info... I'm sure there are copies of the results of that sale floating around somewhere, but I am not sure where to look for it.

If the set including the frame does not sell as a whole, it will be broken up and sold to those who won the individual items.

The frame is being sold along with along with the individual coins-I am sure that quite a few of you have all the coins but are desperately looking for the original frame. the only way you can win just the frame is if you are the high bidder for the frame plus the lot as a whole does not sell.

From the 1973 auction catalog:

This set is absolutely pristine, just as issued by the Commission in 1915. To expand on that point, the set is still in its original Gold-Stamped White Cardboard Box of issue (slightly aged) with the packing cardboard inside. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a set has been offered in this style. We would not be at all surprised if this magnificent set realized $20,000.

The set realized $31,000.

I would estimate that the set offered by CNG will hammer for something above $215,000.

As expected, the bidding on the complete set exceeded the individual bids - the set closed at $250,000.

I can't tell from the CNG web site whether this includes the buyer's fee or not. If it doesn't, then a minimum of 20% (i.e., $50,000) needs to be added - that would equate to a final price of $300,000.
