Going by the picture provided it shows a severely damaged coin. As a damaged coin it no collector value but still worth a quarter

@gester, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes this quarter looks damaged, but a better pic might help to confirm this. When I crop, enlarge, and enhance your pic, it becomes quite pixelated.

and this looks like a damaged coin. The surface and gouge marks look like PSD, but the photo isn't sharp enough to tell for sure.

Do you know the weight of the coin in grams?

If you could post a picture of both sides of the coin, cropped and large enough to see the details, it would be easier to see just what's going on.

Looks like it was altered. Spendable. It may have difficulty being used in a vending machine?
