So has it been confirmed that 2020 will be the final year of the ASE with the same reverse? Apparently a new design on the reverse with some security features on the obverse are in store for the 2021 ASE. If so, anyone think this will make the 2020 ASE more desirable? I initially thought of picking up the two proofs ( W&S) along with the burnished, but then started wondering if the final year of a design really is that big of a deal? Maybe some of the more knowledgeable collectors can provide some insight on past design changes and whether they created any sort of hype or desirability.

My guess would be the first years ones could see a bump from a change, but it does sound like there will be one thankfully

If it is true I hope they do not do what they did with the Platinum Eagles and only offer the different reverses on the "Proof Only" issues.

From what I have read only the bullion ASEs will be getting the new treatment in 2021. Numismatic versions (proof and uncirculated) will follow at least one year later.

That's a shame if that's the case. Doesn't make a ton of sense either unless some special sets are planned but I guess we will see

Mike M from HSN really hammered home the fact that all MS, proof and gold eagles were getting new reverses in 2021. Said he was present at the meeting when the Mint made the announcement. However all familiar with who he is know to take everything he says with a grain of salt.

From the Coin World article linked at http://goccf.com/t/354057 (when we discussed this earlier): "The redesigned reverses will be introduced first on bullion releases dated 2021. The anti-counterfeiting measures will be introduced later on the Proof and other collector versions." That quote comes from the Mint's Office of Corporate Communications, so yeah, I'd say it's confirmed.
