to CCF. First thought was a cent die,but a die would be reverse of a coin. Everything on a die that is raised would be sunk on a minted coin. Maybe what you have is some sort of a "soft die"? Wait for a pro to chime in.

@lf61, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm not convinced that this rusty metal doesn't have the middle 2/3 of a normal cent stuck in it. Can you please provide a couple side shots of this? Thx.

It looks to be either a lead seal mold for stamping the lead style seal closed the ones with the copper wires or red strings for bags.A wax seal
