*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

I found a 2017 effigy mounds quarter has very little to no definition on face of coin. Practically flat if you run your thumb over it. Need help in defining what type of error it is and its possible value as I am new to coin collecting

No disrespect but I have to disagree with it being damaged it wasn't sanded or filed down. The scratches you see in this picture are surface scratches lighting angle makes them more obvious I was trying to get a good angle to show the texture or lack of texture.

Please believe those who have years of experience when they tell you that coin is damaged and has no value over face.
The fact that part of the rim is missing tells you that it has been removed after it was minted. The only way an error can
occur is during the actual striking of the coin and there is no way that damage could happen then, it's impossible.

This honestly has to be one of the most obviously damaged coins I've seen on here. No question about it, PMD.
