1991 D Quarter Error

Hi I think I found an error on the back of my quarter. Theres a few little things I noticed on it.. 1st pic is of dots on the word United and the 2nd pic looks as if it something was already engraved on it b4. Theres a few other spots but these r my best examples.. please let me know

@charlie, first welcome to CCF. Second, while I agree that clearer pics would help, at least one of those might be a die gouge.

It might be die damage if just those areas are affected? (Incuse marks/gouges/dents will leave a raised area on the fields of a coin)

If the coin were double struck, then you would see the same event going on with the reverse.
If the obverse die was damaged, then you would see this on the obverse only. If there was an issue with the obverse die, then there would be several of these out there. First time I've seen this.


The only example of a double struck quarter that affected both sides of the coin. there maybe more, but that is the only affected on I've seen so far.

I only see it on the back of the quarter.. should I get it checked out or just spend it on something?

I would mark it and save it for now. But from the images, I can't see what would cause the issue? Die damage, or coin damage? So keep it safe for now until we find out more about the coin.
