I believe that would be more referred to as a love token and not a hobo. Nice one to find!

As a love token it has value. I collect love tokens. Check ebay. They were not commonly made in the one cent denominations, but were usually in silver.

Not an expert, but hobo seems to refer to a new artsy design generally based on the obverse bust. A love token is when one side gets ground flat and someone's initials were cut into it usually in a fancy from just like yours and often with that extra bit of design around the edges.

I agree with merclover... leave it alone. Do not clean it, buff it or dip it!

At that time, silver was used a lot for jewelry. Why? Because it only cost a dime for the silver and they were altered for a special occasion. (The the term love token)

Why did they call it a "Love Token"? Because the giver would give this to who he cared about, and said "This is a Token of My Love."

I just put it in a 2x2 , I don't clean coins ,I tried the nail cleaner on a new penny didn't do anything (cleaning wise ) so I just leave them the way I get them. Here olive oil works , but just no time to try. maybe if I retire I'll try.this does look cleaned to me ,but may of just been put away , who knows.if it was C M (cookiemonster ) not C F , that would of been cool . happy hunting
