Poll Question
Now well into 2020, a Penny doesn't buy very much. My Poll question is: Do You Pick Up Pennies When You See Them On The Ground? I welcome your comments and votes. Thanks!

While the one cent coins no longer circulate here, other denominations hit the ground. I rarely pick up anything on the ground because of sanitation concerns (OK, I am a mild germaphobe). If I could wash my hands right away I would pick up larger denomination coin.

oriole, so that means you'll not touch any coins a store clerk hands you? I'm not certain, but I think germs don't/can't survive "in the wild" for very long. Am I saying coins are germ free? Of course not, but I can't imagine a coin laying on the pavement being more germy than any other coin. And no offence, but aren't you in the wrong hobby to be germophobic? I sincerely don't want to make light of this if it is something you struggle with... I'm just curious how you handle (no pun intended) this issue?

I mean, I generally don't like to pick up pennies in front of a crowd as to not look greedy, but otherwise yeah I go for them, because you never really know what you might find. Just a few months ago I scored a 1956-D Wheat cent, couldn't believe my eyes when I picked it up

If it's money and it's easy and safe to pick up it will go in to my pocket.
I've picked up everything from cents to $100 casino chips! I do not discriminate!

I find at least a few cents every time I go for a walk. I pick up everything. Heck free money is free money.

I pick up most coins I see on the ground, but not all of them. Found a road rash 2019P RONR quarter today.

@merclover:
Those are very good questions, and no offense taken. The concern is not the coins but the filth on the ground, especially city streets and sidewalks. My "germaphobia" is quite mild and does not cause any problems with my life.
You are quite correct that germs do not survive on metal. Silver especially is a potent germicide. Silver is good for your health!
I use credit most of the time now so I rarely get coins from clerks, but before that it was not a problem. I can happily handle coins for a long time, provided that I can wash my hands before eating or using tissues.

Yes I do, unless I drop them around my place in which case they stay there. I know where they are. Quote: Silver is good for your health!
Unless you overdo it, and turn blue gray.
