I have one. Although I'm sure it's not real I'd like to know for sure.

Please post the photo straight up and down and make sure that the coin is taken at 90 degrees from the lens. Your photo out of whack and looks like kind of an oval, not round.

I'm not a Canadian coin expert, but I did read up a little about the 1936 extra dot and there are only 3 known examples and all 3 are currently sold. So the chances of you finding another especially in uncirculated condition are ZERO. So if you think you found one, you are incorrect. If you don't believe me, please have it graded (by NGC or PGCS) and if it comes back as an authentic 1936 DOT, I will be wrong. But sadly I won't, but you will out of the grading fee.

We now have 3 different posters in the same thread with the same type of coin. Should they not be split into there own threads?

But I doubt this is one of them if that were the case.

There is a specimen set donated to the BOC museum about a year or so by the former mint master's family, unknown to anyone until then, so the rumours of this coin being a custom made unit are probably true

For the longest time that is what I assumed, the 3 that are known were custom made and if that were the case then I don't see why they should catch any sort of premium other than a few hundred maximum. To me that just looks like a way of taking advantage of collectors with the outrageous price tag, if only those 3 were struck on purpose, then can the really be classified as "Rare".... To me "RARE" is the label you put on something that was once known to have many but is one of the last to survive. If the 1936 DOT is custom and deliberately made for only 3 examples, then this does not classify as rare in my books, but more unique if anything. So my interest in the 1936 DOT penny is really non existent, as I don't look for deliberately fabricated errors/varieties that were made with "profit" from collectors in mind as you would be looking for something that does not exist and is a waste of time because the only 3 known are accounted for and spoken for.
But I did read a few articles stating that more than 3 were minted, and only 3 were known to have survived, given the fact that no other examples have been found (besides the obvious fakes) I'm in the same boat as john100, most likely custom made and only examples known for that exact reason.
So all in all, I don't look at the 1936 dot as rare, I look at it as a unique deliberate 3 of a kind, but nothing more and I would never pay the asking price for one even if I were a millionaire. This is just my humble opinion.

Here's a photo of the 1936 specimen set from the BOC museum; you can just make out the dot on the 1c...

The market place determines value, when the 36 dot or the 1911 dollar, in lesser value the 67 double struck dollars are all recognized by major publications so when they come to auction they command their market values. If the 36 dot was only a die chip and not originally owned by Mr. Pittman it would probably be worth 100 bucks.
