This one caught my eye as textbook graded. Assembled a 6 coin matching set of the Shallow and Bold N reverse varieties in VG for:1870,71,and 72 in original condition.
Paid between auction and retail (80 bucks) without any regret. Am not seeing many slabbed low grade semi-key Indian cents without some minor blemish or distraction, when I do its refreshing. This one is in a recent ANACS holder as VG8. What does the forum think?

Very nice tough coin VG8 is correct. Nice to see a well graded non damaged or cleaned example.

Nice to see a nice accurately graded example, ANACS seems to be the company I find myself agreeing with the most lately. Good piece.

Looking at Photograde, this coin is VG 10.

Because of as follows (items in bold are the differences between VG8 and VG10):
The LI in liberty is visible
Full Denticles
Clear Date
Almost full lines on the top of the shield
Last lick of hair

Its a nice no problem coin for a tough date. Nice find.

Thanks everyone, this ones easy on the eyes. A seller on ebay has a gorgeous F12 listed for $299.00 but for me that's a little steep even for the scarce 1871. I threw the towel in on 1869, 1871 and 1872 thinking I may locate problem free examples at discount prices. Appears you get what you pay for on any series. VG10? well maybe...but lean with the rest thinking VG8. Will post pics of it when I crack it out. A black capital holder is in the mail from Wizard. Started with 1.5 mylar flips then Dansco album about 8 months later and finally a year into the series am set on a capital holder. Saw a full set of Fine to VF Indians at a coin show and it blew me away literally.
Wanted to be sure first so put my Buffalo nickels in a blue Capital for experiment and it is lovely can't wait to see all 60 (66?) Indian Heads lined up in the Capital. Going to contact Capital and see if I can special order a 6 holer for the Bold and Shallow N's.

Surprised others didn't say VG-10. I could easily see a VG-10 grade on this piece, with the way the Liberty is coming through. Still, would be fine with a VG-8 grade but VG-10 would be a nice surprise.

I'm at VG-08. While it's almost there, I just can't get the reverse to VG-10. It's a nice original example of a tough date, and would look good in a collection. I could easily see an eye appeal bump above VG-08 on the value.
