Poll Question
 Hello, as a avid coin collector for the past six years I've always wondered where I stand among others in collecting. Am I average?  Am I keeping up with my competition? Am I having as much fun? Am I in as much debt? Do I have an average collection? So I figured the best way to find out is for you to tell me anonymously! So tell me, what in your best opinion, is the total TREND VALUE of your coin collection, regardless of what country, denomination and grade you collect. Only thing I ask from you, is to please be honest, and if you can spare a moment, please give me a taste of your two "finest" coins!  Glenn

My entire Lincoln Cent collection has a retail value under $15K with almost $10K residing in PCGS slabs and most of the rest raw. A few NGC/ANACS slabs are mixed in. Last year I took a big chunk of my cash and started "investing" in bullion. I have 30 ounces of gold in the form of $20 Double Eagles, $10 Eagles, and Gold American Eagles. Nearly all are raw. I also have about 200 ounces of silver. Many rolls of Morgan/Peace dollars with a few rolls of American Silver Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs. After that there's miscellaneous silver halves, IHC, early copper, and some others. I voted $40K total but would be lucky to get $30K out of it all if I had to sell. Buying all the gold was great fun but addicting. The Lincoln's are my real collecting passion and I have most of the 2nd era ('34-'58 wheats) slabbed in MS.  |

My collection is probably worth somewhere between $50-65,000. I think the Fed's are going to clean out all the safe deposit boxes when the economy gets a little worse so I keep it all in coffee cans in the trunk of my late model low mileage Lamborghini, along with the $500k in bearer bonds I inherited from my rich Aunt Sallie. I travel a lot & live in the country without any neighbors, so I got a recording of a dog that goes off if you open the garage door. I trust ya'll, so I know it's safe to mention that I live in Alabama in the only house on a dead end dirt road that's exactly 1.2 miles west of the intersection of Hwy 431 & Lee County 389. |

I decided not to vote because in all honesty I have no idea what the value of my collection is. I just buy stuff that I like that I can afford and have been doing so for a long time. I'm pretty confident that it's worth more than 10k and I'm also pretty confident that it's worth less than 250k...
One of my biggest problems is that I don't know what all I have. I try to "collect" one set at a time but when ever I see something that catches my eye and looks to be a pretty good deal, I'll buy it. Even if it's not what I'm actively collecting. Then I'll file it away and forget about it until such time as I finish the set I'm "collecting".
Right now I'm nearly finished with my Roosevelt set and so I've been contemplating what to start working on next. Ike's really interested me. I knew I had one complete set that I put together about 15 years ago. But I thought it would be fun to put another one together. So I opened up the file cabinet that holds the modern dollars that I've picked up by happenstance and started going through looking for Ikes... And come to find out I had spares enough to put together a complete set.
After doing that I remembered that a few months ago I went on a Barber Half buying spree so I moved up to the next drawer and started looking at my Halves. Come to find out I've got about 30 different halves that I'd picked up here and there. But it's no where near complete... So this is the set I'm going to work on now.
Long story short... I don't really care what the "value" of my collection is. That's not why I collect. I collect because it fills some crazy need in me to fill holes in albums and folders. Sometimes I'll pull coins out of albums just to be able to push them back in.

Less than $1000.
In fact, the most I ever spent on a coin was $70 (yeah I know, big spender).
The majority of my ancients come from cleaning them right out of the ground, and my Lincolns are from roll hunting. The only coins I really "buy" are silver Romans and early U.S. Commems for my 7094.
I think the fun isn't from how much you spend, its from collecting the coins that appeal to you at the moment you are buying.

I would say my trend is about 10 to 20k a year that just depends on if I collect most Liberty double eagles and DMPL Morgans so it can get pricey.

Unfortunately the poll will not tell you much about "how you are doing" because you are getting replies from some people who have only been collecting for a short period, and ones like myself who have been collecting for 35 years or longer.

Most of the collection I have inherited and I need to send a lot off to get slabbed. I see our forum topics are easy to find under google searching  so I will just say they are a nice collection  |

My grandmother had a bag of "silver dollars" but my aunt who has them in a safety deposit box will not even let me see them..lol I think she is scared I might ask to keep them. I honestly just want to see what kind of condition they are in, dates, and if they are really silver dollars or not. My aunt and grandmother may have thought all the Ikes were silver which kind of scares me..lol They know nothing about coins. One day I will finally inherit them but I'd like to know what they are first. |

I always wished my grandfathers or even father had a collection that they handed down. I think it would be great to continue someones collection.
I voted 0-$1000 since I only recently started collecting coins. My son due in Dec will have one hell of a collection when he gets older though ;)

I have been collecting on and off for 40+ years.I have amassed all kinds of albums and denominations, cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, and silver dollars, and I can only say I too wish I had a parent or grandparent who collected and I could continue what they started.This not being the case, I have a passion to collect coins, and hope to continue to do so till I can not.That said the value is priceless and could never put a price on a fun, passionate pass time that gives me such tremendous pleasure and accomplishment, knowing someday my children will (i hope )not sell to the highest bidder and even slightly, enjoy the collection as I have.estimated value:?

I consider myself a serious collector (not investor) but frankly, I don't know what TREND VALUE means. I wouldn't even know how to figure out how much its worth. I have pictures of each coin for insurance purposes, but that's about it.
