Among my family keepsakes is this 1886 Martha Washington $1. My grandfather was a sniper during WWI and didn't get paid until he returned to the US when they paid him in $1 bills. He kept a few and I inherited this one. Its fairly decent except for the creases. Is there a way to remove the creases or otherwise conserve this bill? Thanks.

The creases cannot be removed. The fibers are broken, and that is permanent Just stick it in a stiff plastic currency holder.

DO NOT TRY TO CONSERVE OR REMOVE THE CREASES! This adds to the originality of the note. This is a very nice example and would probably garner an "EPQ" designation at PMG (pending no pinholes or other issues). That makes it more desirable. Once you try to flatten or press it, it loses its originality that is desired. My suggestion is get it in a currency sleeve and leave it as is.

Do not attempt to improve the note. Paper looks nice, maybe VF-20/25. Value around $300 retail.

Love your note !
An original Martha with great color and eye appeal. I firmly agree with the others about attempting any improvements-just don't. Having a note with family history is wonderful, having an all-original Martha Washington with family history is Awesome.
