Well I decided to fill my 3CN slot today. It technically was filled, though by a proof (see that one here http://goccf.com/t/354652)

Filling this slot actually proved to be pretty challenging. C3N often have poor strikes on the reverse in which the lines on the numerals are blended or simply not present. They also have extensive clashing, which for a type piece I personally wanted to avoid. The third boundary was luster. While on a few occasions I found one that met the first 2 requirements, they had poor or subdued luster. The only "detractor" is that the denticles aren't particularly present, but that's not a huge deal to me. So, I snagged this one at what I think is a very good price all things considered.

Outstanding luster for a 3CN, I'd say a solid MS-64.

That's nice. I'll say MS-65.

I'm going to assume what appears to be scratches on the obverse is on the holder. an abrasion under the U in UNITED, some discoloration across the profile and weak strike. the reverse columns are well struck which is something I always look for but again we see weakness in strike with the denticles and the tie on the ribbon. I think all these small issues will hold it to MS64

Nice coin.
You shopped well.
Strike up in the 90-95% area.

It took me a long while to find one for my type set.
I turned down an MS-66 because of the weakness of the strike.
I settled on an MS-65 because it needs a 10x loupe to see that the ribs on the III are just slightly not fully struck.
Describe it as if there were no picture.

Great luster! Been looking for a well struck example myself and has proven tricky. I think this one makes it to MS-65.

I looked for reasons to not call it MS66 and came up with none. MS66 it is in my opinion...
