I have a 1944 S Lincoln Penny that the mint mark is very close to the year. And the 'U' is missing/lightly struck in UNUM on the back. I'll post a picture of another one that isn't close. Do I have an error coin? And if I do, what would be the value?
Not an error coin. Mint marks 'back then' were struck by hand. As such, mint mark positions on the die being used will vary. The weak U is likely caused by a grease filled die--not uncommon.
