hi folks I am a firm believer in that a person should be able to spend their money in whatever way they choose. This penny did sell for over $40k. I am, myself not that kind of collector, but each to his own. My question is this: I looked at this penny and did not see the double die or whatever it was that makes it so special. To me, it just looked like another beat-up junk penny. Can any of you more experienced members tell me specifically what I should be looking for or at on this coin, because I just cannot see it. I am not knocking the coin or the buyer, just want to see what defect or feature or whatever that makes it so special. https://www.greatcollections.com/kb...-t400-4.htmlthanks all... mike

The 1969-S DDO-001 cent is a very VERY expensive doubled die, as the spread is one of the most extreme on a Lincoln cent.
It being at MS63+ also would have a massive impact.
I might be mistaken but I think this is the most valuable doubled die on a Lincoln cent in existence. This coin is worth around $60,000 in that grade. If it was even higher, then it could be worth around $125,000.

Ok Tanman, thanks for the link. Makes it easier to see it. Again, I am not knocking anybody or anything, I was just curious. If I was that kind of collector and that penny was so special, I can certainly see its value. I profess that I am ignorant on varieties, but it helps a little. Thanks again... mike

As previously stated, the 1969-S FS-101 is the king of Memorial cent doubled dies, and the rarest major doubled die for the Lincoln Cent series. Even the most beaten examples often reach 5 figures.

There are a decent amount of folks with deeeeeeep pockets that collect super rarities. A coin like this is also seen as an investment as it will continue to grown in value. She sure is a beauty.

If someone found an entire roll, the price would plummet.

Truly is a remarkable doubled die. Quote: A coin like this is also seen as an investment as it will continue to grown in value. She sure is a beauty. Unless those spots turn into corrosion.... reverse already looks a bit suspect if you ask me.
