Fake, probably not a true back story - looks like bad and modern Chinese copy of a coin in VG/Fine condition.
Sorry, the Japanese silver yen is heavily faked by Chinese junk coin mills. Pitting stains near Chrysanthemum, unnatural lustre on coin surface, likely lead or steel fake coin.
Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi. If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.
