A friend procured two rolls of UNC 1969S Lincoln cents. The enders look absolutely beautiful. We haven't opened the rolls yet. I told him about the DD that may be possible, but other than that, what would you do with these rolls if they are all UNC? He bought them out of the till at his job. They have "1969-S" written on the paper rolls - I suspect they may be extra stock from a collector or dealer. The rolls are old Bank of America paper, loosely wrapped.

Thanks for insights.

I'd probably open them if I were you. It would be cool to keep them in the original rolls, but you can probably do it non-destructively. Look for DDOs/errors/gems, then put them back.

The fact that those rolls are loosely wrapped is an indication that they will be spotty . My advice is to open them up and see if any are errors or high MS grades.

Personally, I wouldn't attempt to 'put the coins back' into the wrappers. Just open them and inspect each piece, capturing the very best.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to give him some cent tubes to get them out of the paper. We will look for high MS coins, but if they're all standard MS coins I told him that he may get a buck or so each if he was willing to put them out on eBay.

Will look for the obvious errors - I'm not educated in the minor errors. I can guide him to the error sites if he is interested.

We opened one of the rolls this morning. All 50 were UNC. Probably mid-MS on the lot. I told him to put them in the acrylic tubes I provided and put aside for later. Other roll still remains a mystery - he didn't want to break it open. But, the allure of the DD may prove too much.

He decided to give them all to me to check against the Cherry-picker's Guide. If there are any not listed in CPG that are really worth looking out for, please let me know.
