Can you return it? Or if it only cost a few bucks then keep it for a counterfeit example but mark the holder as such.

Well the coin weighs 27.2, doesn't stick to a magnet and everything on it lines up to the other ones what makes you so sure its fake? Just because you've never seen one don't make it fake. Is it monkey see monkey do, you follow me ill follow you? One guy says its fake so all does? Everyone wants to make belt buckles and paper weights but can you legitimately verify this coin is fake?

Why bother to post on this forum, if you are so sure it is real. Just send it into a TPG and be done with it. |

Everyone who commented on here has multiple years of experience, some have more than a decade. No one needed anyone else's opinion to tell you it's fake. If you want to verify our opinion you're more than welcome to send it in to a TPG for certification. It would be a waste of money, but it's your money. |

I've seen one, so I do know what it looks like. All 1885 Trade dollars were proof coin, your coin does not have even remotely prooflike surfaces. The details are extremely mushy and flat, the devices are also incorrectly shaped. A proof coin, especially the 1885 Trade dollar would never have been circulated. Proof coins are made to show extraordinary detail in the devices which this coin does not. Not to mention even if it was a circulated proof the coin would never show the inequality in detail between the obverse and reverse like your coin does. The coin below is a genuine 1885 Trade dollar, the Hansen Specimen. It looks nothing like your coin. If you don't believe us then please send it in.  |

@ Jmc A better investment rather than carrying on about your obvious Chinese Fake , in both time and money . Buy a numismatic book , the Red Book even a used Copy would be an excellent purchase for you . After purchase , a nice glass of Red , a comfortable couch , and in the background the soft sounds of GO WEST ... " The King of Wishful Thinking ". We are here to help , but the person asking needs to have a little input as well . |
