1978 Denver Mint Jefferson Nickel. Possible Doubling?

I found this nickel today while roll hunting. I'm new to the Coin World and would like anyone's thoughts.

Given the photos posted, the coin appears to be a well-circulated '78 D--with plenty of light hits and dings, along with a fair degree of circulation wear/flattening. Might also include a hint of die deterioration--worn die used when the coin was struck.

I agree, the thickness seen on the devices is a result of a worn die in VLDS.

This is a good example of a coin on which I find it difficult to distinguish the blobbiness of Die Deterioration from a legit doubled die. Maybe Coop will have some didactic pics.
