Hi

Let me start with I cannot seem to figure out what I am looking for with these light spread/ extra thickness type varieties at all. I "think" this is an example of a 1983D-1DO-001 however it would not surprise me at all for it to be a regular penny. Please take a look and give me an opinion.

Thanks in advance Eric

On Variety Vista it is DDO-002:

Looks like a match to 1983D-1DO-001

I don't see a match on Wexler's site yet.

Thanks COOP for the confirmation! On of these days I will get these figured out. This one just looked odd enough for me to set it aside.

Nice find , I am clueless to what to look for ... but I am glad I ran across this site,
a lot of knowledgeable people here. If it doesn't have two heads or look crazy I wouldn't know what was what lol.

Hey Pauley, I am right there with you. I have a very hard time with this type of variety. I have probably tossed them into my return pile regularly.

Eric, I marked up your full coin shot to show areas to help with seeing these that have a light spread. Just like anything else, you will be able to see them much more easily with time. They are not always these areas but much of the time they are. On the date, sometimes you will see thickness at the Southeast corners of the 83. On LIBERTY, it will look pointy, due west on the Northwest corners of the letters and thick at the Southeast corner of the R, same with the R in TRUST. Thickness in the cruxes of the G.

Thanks Makecents, this is the first one of this type I picked out correctly. I was spotting the 3 and the R in trust.
